There is a huge debate on whether celebrities should join politics or not. Celebrities are recocnised figures who have strong potential to influence the public. Most of the youngsters listen to celebrities rather than politicians. Celebrities set trends and fashion. They can influence people to contribute both positively and negatively in the society.

However, politics is an institution of governance and lawmaking. The prior job of any politician is to plan and implement law and order. They make policies which guides to development of a state and its people. Politicians maintain good international relationship and preserve national security and integrity.

There is an argument that whenever a celebrity enters politics it is to an influence person to the motives of a political party, but that is not always true. It is true that celebrities attract a mass following and can sway public opinion in any direction they prefer. Celebrities are successful in their respective field and have the right ethics required being successful in politics.

Let us take an example of recent presidential election in the United States of America. Donald Trump is a celebrity turned politician who became the 45th President of The United States of America. He was a celebrity who appeared in many television programmes, films and even hosted a television series called 'The Apprentice'. Many experts believe that Trumps celebrity status and occasional appearance in the media helped a lot in his presidential win.

Similarly, celebrities joining politics is nothing new in India. Many celebrities have turned into politicians and have won their respective seats in the parliament. Some of the notable celebrities are Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Govinda, Hema Malini, Sachin Tendulkar among many who were and are still a member of parliament.

In Nepal there are very less celebrities who are involved actively in politics. One of the notable female actor involved openly and actively in politics is Rekha Thapa. She recently joined the Rastriya Prajatantra Party of Nepal. Bhuwan KC recently has admitted to be a member of CPN-UML party of Nepal. Most of the Nepali celebrities are not seen openly involved in politics. This nature of neutrality could be blamed at the ghastly political system and instability in Nepal.

Celebrities will always have influential power over people no matter if they are involved in politics or not. They should use this persuasion approach positively for the development of an individual and the society. Celebrities have every right to be involved in politics. Nevertheless, they should use the influential power for good rather than their personal motives.
