Social awakening must for women’s empowerment: President Bhandari

Odisha, India, April 20: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has pointed out the need for social awakening in our society for women’s rights and empowerment. President Bhandari is currently on a five-day State Visit to India.

Speaking at an interaction on women’s empowerment organized by Mission Shakti, an organization in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the State of Odisha here Thursday, she said the efforts for women’s empowerment will not bear fruit without representation of women in every sector of the national life. She lauded the role of the state of Odisha in women’s empowerment through control of women and child trafficking, rescuing the women survivors and providing rehabilitation service to them.

President Bhandari shared that the new constitution in Nepal has adopted a representative governance system based on proportional inclusion, while also making special provisions for the empowerment of the marginalized and backward communities. Also guaranteed is positive discrimination for women and special opportunities for social security based on right to equal share in ancestral property.


Also present at the programme were Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Sitadevi Yadav, MPs, and other members of the Nepali entourage.

Also today, President Bhandari paid homage at the Lingaraj temple in Odisha and later in the evening attending a dinner reception hosted by the Governor of the state of Odisha.

As per the schedule tomorrow, the President will pay obeisance at the renowned Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha. RSS
