Gal Gadot to receive Palm Springs Film Fest Rising Star award
Los Angeles, Nov 11: For more than one reason Gal Gadot had been the most loved woman this year. She is the star of one of 2017’s most successful superhero movies Wonder Woman, and for that, she will be receiving the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s 2018 Awards Gala.
According to Deadline, a statement issued by festival chairman Harold Matzner noted, “Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman showed us a strong, capable, poised, curious and compassionate character, and her performance has been universally praised, resonating with audiences everywhere.” The actor will soon be seen reprising her Wonder Woman avatar in DC’s upcoming film, Justice League. She had made her first appearance as the superhero in Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill starrer Batman Vs Superman.
The statement continued, “Gal plays the immortal warrior so well, and the film’s themes are especially apt for today, empowering all types of people, women and men, young and old, the world over.”
Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman became the highest-grossing film helmed by a woman, as well as having the largest opening for a female-led comic-based film. It grossed more than 820 million dollar worldwide. Wonder Woman had also become the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman. In the past, the Rising Star Award has gone to Ruth Negga, Alicia Vikander, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Anna Kendrick and Dakota Fanning.
In Justice League, Gal Gadot will be sharing the screen alongside Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Henry Cavill. Helmed by Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon. The film is slated to release on November 17.
