Chitrakar wins 13th Craft Competition

Kathmandu, Nov 23:Three artists under the folk painting genre were awarded first, second and third prizes at the 13th Craft Competition that concluded on Tuesday.
The competition ran for five days along with a five-day-long 15th Handicraft Trade Fair, organised by the Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN) at the Bhrikutimandap on November 17.
Artist Birendra Chitrakar (Newar painting) was announced first. Similarly, Punam Kumari Das (Mithila painting) and Narendra Chaudhari (Tharu painting) were declared second and third respectively. The first, second and third prize winners won cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively, along with certificates.
A jury of three senior artists -Ishwor Prasad Chitrakar, Mithila Devi Yadav and Ashok Tharu selected the winners among 27 participants, including Sunaina Thakur and Ranju Kumari Yadav (Mithila painting), Laxmi Chaudhary, Puja Kumari Chaudhary and Dephu Chaudhari (Tharu painting) and Sajan Shakya, Anit Shilpakar and Suvin Rajkarnikar from Newar Punjya painting.
A live interaction between junior and senior artists was also organised as a part of the event. Besides, dozens of senior artists were also felicitated, FHAN vice-president Prachanda Shakya said.
