NC leader Poudel remembers Shailaja as inspiring figure
Kathmandu, June 12: Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel recognised contribution and political faith of NC leader Shailaja Acharya as inspiring and worth-following. "Acharya was a rebellious personality. She was jailed in 2017 for showing a black flag to then King Mahendra Shah, an act of protest. She retained her rebellious character until her last time," he said at the ninth Memorial Day of Acharya organised today here by the Shailaja Acharya Adarsha Samaj.
In another context, saying the NC, a party of principle and organisation, has reached this situation as its organisation fails, he suggested to NC President rising above groupism.
The government with two-thirds majority raising the issue of directly-elected executive President lately has set off a suspicion, he said.
Saying the incumbent government was advancing towards totalitarianism, NC central member Dr Shekhar Koirala viewed that the NC should stand firmly against it.
Granting Balkrishna Dhungel, a convict in war crimes, a pardoning has raised question about free judiciary, he added.
Other speakers like the Samaj's President Durga Ghimire, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Hari Prabha Khadgi, and journalist Purushottam Dahal praised Acharya as playing an important role in establishing women's rights in the country.
