Booty buyers held along with thief
Chitwan, Aug 7: A woman involved in the theft of jewellery and cash and two others buying the stolen items have been arrested here today.
The police have arrested her along with two businessmen who bought the stolen items from her.
Shova BK, 32, originally from Makwanpur and doing business at Gaidakota of Nawalpur was arrested on charge of stealing jewelleries and cash, said District Police Office, Chitwan.
Similarly, Sanu Ratna Shakya from Ombahal of Kathmandu and Lekh Bahadur BK running Rashmi Jewellers at Narayangadh were arrested for buying golden jewelleries from BK.
DSP Prabhu Prasad Dhakal shared that initial investigation has revealed that BK stole jewelleries and the money from six houses amounting to Rs 2.5 million since April.
In the last fiscal year, the district police received the complaints of theft of Rs 3.5 million and 49 tolas of gold and 17 tolas of silver.
According to DSP Dhakal, the woman used to carry out her work especially during the day time. Initial investigation showed that in one case of theft, BK even covered her with umbrella as she found CC camera at a home. She usually covered her face with shawl and stole the jewelleries and money from cache with minimum damage on door and cupboard.
It is estimated that the woman might have been involved in the theft for long. She has been running an eatery, Thakali Bhansaghar, buying a house at Gaidakot Municipality Ward No 2. Although there was another woman aiding her in the crime, she has been absconding, the police added.
