PATA Travel Mart kicks off in Malaysia: 70 countries including Nepal participating

- CB Adhikari, Langkawi, Malaysia, Sept 13 (RSS): The 41st edition of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart-2018 has kicked off in the touristic spot of Malaysia, Langkawi, from today. 

Organized by the Tourism Ministry of Malaysia and the PATA Head Offices, there are altogether 70 countries and more than 1000 representatives, including from Nepal, participating in this yearly flagship event of PATA, according to the organizers.

Altogether 252 buyers and 200 sellers are partaking in the event where, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, underscored a cross-country collaboration for the promotion of tourism as well the development of the tourism sector.

Inaugurating the tourism promotion event, Deputy Prime Minister Ismail said that Malaysia, which had attracted more than 25.9 million foreign tourists in 2017, would take the lead for the promotion of tourism sector in the years to come.

Malaysia, a country in Southeast Asia, aims to bring in more than 30 million tourists in 2022.

The host country has 67 sellers, 250 buyers from 53 source markets in the Mart.

Similarly, Malaysian Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture YB Tuan Mohamaddin bin Ketapi affirmed that Malaysia was safe for the tourists and expressed his confidence that the growing foreign investment in his country would further boost national economy.

Langkawi Kedah Province Chief Minister Dr Mukhirz bin Mahathir shared that the development of physical infrastructure and tourism destinations promotion were emphasized in his province to lure as many as tourists.

A beautiful island in Malaysia, Langkawi, has a cable-car and head-over bridge built over the sea as a major attraction among the tourists besides its rich flora and fauna.

From Nepal, altogether 10 private sector participants including tour operator, travel and hotels are taking part in the 3-day event in coordination of PATA Nepal Chapter, Nepal Tourism Board and Nepal Airlines Corporation.

The representatives from Nepal will promote and propagate Nepal's tourism sector and the tourism entrepreneurs from private sector from Nepal are expected to sell tourism destinations in packages.

PATA Nepal Chapter CEO Suresh Singh Budal informed that Nepal has been participating in the Travel Mart since it began in 1978. The Nepali side has been marking meaningful participation in the event with an objective to promotion of Nepal's tourism and extension of relationships among other fellow tourism entrepreneurs for the same.

He held the view that such events would aid to realize tourism promotion event like 'Visit Nepal 2020' of Nepal which aims to bring in 2 million tourists in 2020. Thus attention has been paid to make sure the exterior and interior of Nepali's booth in the Mart is unique and eye-catching.

Echoing with Budal, NTB Senior Manager Sunil Sharma opined that such event would help promote Nepal's tourism destinations, dispelling the misleading impressions about Nepal among the foreign tourists as well as would contribute to the success of Nepal's vision ' Visit Nepal 2020'.

The tourism entrepreneurs from Nepal will also hold discussion with the other tourism entrepreneurs from foreign countries about the Nepal's efforts towards tourism promotion.

Hotelier from Nepal, Ramchadra Bhattarai viewed that Travel Mart would help in the development of Nepal's tourism sector.

Likewise, NAC Spokesperson Rabindra Shrestha asserted that the event would be significantly useful in promoting the destinations of the NAC's new wide-body aircrafts.

Nepali representatives would also directly interact with the representatives from the proposed destination countries such as South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Japan in the event.

The Travel Mart will run through Sept 14.
