PPC to be constituted
Biratnagar, Oct 10: Province No. 1 chief minister Sherdhan Rai has said that the Provincial Panning Commission (PPC) would be constituted for the panned development of the province.
Speaking in a provincial-level capacity enhancement programme on sustainable development goals-friendly planning, monitoring, evaluation and statistics, organized by the National Planning Commission (NPC) here today, he said the province government has consulted with experts regarding forming the PPC and a decision on the updated development plan would be made public within few days.
According to the Chief Minister, this development plan would include the formulation of the overall development pan, the process of formulating the updated plan and its practice, maintaining the inter-relations and coordination among the federal, provincial and local levels, among others.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Rai said that the province government was working on the development of a Birat build-up area and the construction of six and four-lane roads, building the smart city, satellite city and sports city in the province as well as the industrial development zone. He added that the province government was carrying out physical infrastructure development in line with this policy, stressing on the need of reliable data and economic statistics for development.
The objective of the programme is to share theoretical and practical knowledge on the present situation of the country in terms of the SDG, the availability, internalization and localization of economic indicators at the federal, provincial and local levels, concept of monitoring and evaluation of the overall development process and its use at the provincial level, and the significance, availability and utilization of statistics for the planned overall development.
Province No. 1 state assembly speaker Pradip Kumar Bhandari, NPC vice-chairman Pushpa Raj Kandel, officiating chief secretary of the province government Yagya Bahadur Khatri, NPC secretary Naresh Kumar Chapagain and member Krishna Prasad Oli. Province No. 1 government minister for economic affairs and planning Indra Bahadur Aangbo, social development minister Jeevan Ghimire and industry, tourism, forest and environment minister Jagadish Kushiyat spoke on the need of expediting the development process in the country as well as the province with the goal of meeting SDGs.
Thirty five province officials from the Office of the Province Chief and the Council of Ministers, and different province ministries are attending the two-day programme.
