Sports dispute settlement committee’s term extended by month
Kathmandu, Jan 11: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has extended the deadline of a committee formed to find solution to the dispute seen of late the various sports associations by a month.
The committee formed on December 3 through the ministerial-level decision (Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwokarma) to deal with the issue has been extended by a month, the Ministry said.
National Sports Council vice chair Pitambar Timsina is the coordinator of the three-member squad. The other members are Ministry joint-secretary Ana Prasad Neupane and NSC sports department chief Kul Bahadur Thapa.
According to Neupane, with the formation of the committee, it held first round of discussions with the officials of taekwondo, karate, wrestling, gymnastics and table tennis associations and have reached close to a consensus."Earlier discussions ended positively and we will sit for talks again within the next few days to find the solution."
The presence of two parallel organisations of the same sport has led to disputes regarding who will participate mainly in the international competitions from Nepal. The committee is preparing to sit for dialogue with the Olympic Committee after holding consultations with the sports associations.
