Kathmandu, Mar. 26: Irked district chairs of the Nepali Congress are going to hold a meeting in Kathmandu on April 3 and 4.
The district chairs decided to hold the meeting to exert pressure on the party leadership to respect the Mahasamiti meeting’s mandate and correct the amendment made to the party statute.
They are demanding incorporation of the suggestions of the Mahasamiti meeting in the statute as committed by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba then.
The NC Mahasamiti meeting that had ended on December 23, 2018 had agreed that the party central leaders should be elected from grassroot level committee as party general convention representative and Mahasamiti member. It had also agreed to give only one chance to any one elected in any post under the proportional representative system.
But a recent NC Central Working Committee meeting denied incorporating the suggestions on the basis of majority prompting senior leaders Ram Chandra Paudel and others to write note of dissent in the decision.
NC Sindhupalchok chair Bikash Lama told The Rising Nepal that the meeting is being called to exert pressure on the party leadership to incorporate the two provisions in the party statute.
“We will give an ultimatum to the leadership to correct these things. Otherwise we will start calling a special general convention of the party to change the party leadership,” said Lama.
One third general convention representatives can call the party’s special general convention, according to its statute.
However, party spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma was not available for official views on the preparations made to call the meeting of the district chairs.
