Enforce compulsory education provision
Kailali, April 22: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel on Monday said any educational institution failing to implement the compulsory education provision would be deprived of government services.
According to the Free and Compulsory Education Act that got approved last week from the cabinet, the local governments have to make sure every child aged 5 to 12 years is enrolled and receives free education in public schools.
The new law also bans anyone without basic education (grades eighth) by 2028 from taking up jobs at any government or non-government agencies and from getting public position. "Those educational institutions failing to enforce the provision will be barred from even opening bank accounts," he said speaking at a press meet in Dhangadhi.
The government was on track to declare the country literate soon, he said. Stating that of the total 313,000 children who remained out of school last year, 254,000 have already been enrolled in schools, he stressed the need for the local government itself to take care of the remaining children.
