Bara produces potato worth Rs. 1.86b

Bara, Apr. 27: Potato worth Rs. 1.86 billion was produced in the district this year.
According to Chief of Agriculture Knowledge Centre of the district Jitendra Prasad Yadav, around 116,432 tons of potato worth Rs. 1.86 billion was produced in Bara this year.
Increment in the potato farming areas, favourable climate and healthy potato plants contributed to the increase in potato production, he said.
Local farmers planted potatoes in around 7,660 hectares of land, he said. Per hectare production stood at 15.2 tons.
Last year, around 114,450 tons of potato worth Rs. 1.60 billion was produced with per hectare production at 15 tons.
Farmers of Hariharpur, Golagunj, Amritgunj, Dewapur, Uchihid, Bhagawanpur, Piperpaati and Matiarba are growing potatoes in the district.
Traders in Kalaiya are now selling per quintal potato at Rs. 1,600.
