Autocratic system not acceptable to NC: President Deuba
Kathmandu, May 8: Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba today said autocratic system by no means would be acceptable to the NC. He referred to the overthrow of autocratic Rana regime and monarchy under the leadership of the NC.
He was inaugurating an awakening campaign entitled 'the Mountain, Hill, Tarai-Madhes' launched by the NC's Kathmandu district committee that aims to bring reforms in the NC.
Criticising the utterance of 'my government' in the ceremony to read out the government's policies and programmes as against the spirit of the constitution, he stressed the need for the NC to expose the government's wrong doings to the people through an awakening campaign.
In another context, he said the issue of election of central member representatives from the local level would be discussed within the party.
Likewise, NC leader Prakash Man Singh said the awakening campaign would further energise the NC from the centre to local level, and help spread NC's role to the people.
Claiming that the NC was that party which always stood with people during their troubles and the campaign aimed to protect the rights of people.
Leader Singh added that the major objective of the campaign was to incorporate people having similar ideologies with the party and take the party ahead through a due process in a disciplined way.
Awareness Campaign Kathmandu central representative and party central member said through the campaign, party wanted to run the party through a new style. “It aims to make the party competent and to empower the people.”
The NC parliamentary party chief whip accused the prime minister of using 'unparliamentary' language while the party was attempting to put the questions of people before the House.
Kathmandu Metropolis deputy-mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi claimed that the nation could not be free from corruption until the party acted against it. NC Kathmandu president Krishna (Sabuj) Baniya spoke the need of putting an end to the culture of groupism within the party to operate the party as a pure organisation.
The first-phase of the nationwide campaign kicked from today will run for a month while the second-phase of campaign has been scheduled from September 10 to 24 and the third-phase campaign will run from December 23 to January 1 ( 2010), according to the party source.
