Buddha eye center opens in Bardibas
Bardibas, Mahottari, May 19: An eye treatment center has been opened here at Bardibas Municipality, Mahottari district, Province 2, coinciding with the Buddha Jayanti today.
Mayor of Bardibas municipality, Bidur Kumar Karki, inaugurated the Buddha Eye Center amidst a special function on Saturday. The Center is operated by the Mahakaruna Society Nepal in cooperation with the municipality.
With the establishment of the eye hospital which will also provide services including eye surgery by the opthalmologist, it is expected that people with eye problems in the entire eastern Terai region will benefit from the Buddha eye center.
In his inaugural speech, Mayor Karki said that the municipality was happy to facilitate the establishment of the eye care center and would provide necessary assistance in the days to come.
Dr. Nabaraj Gautam, Chairman of the Mahakaruna Society Nepal, said, "Mahakaruna Society Nepal is seeking kind hands from international community to provide support for childhood blindness of school children in the marginalized community".
The center has planed to offer free eye check up as well as eye glasses to 1,000 school students from the marginalized community in the area within a month.
Director of the eye center, Yuba Raj Chaulagain, said that the objective of the center was purely social work - to provide eye treatment services for the poor, backward and marginalised people at a very low cost rather than gain profit by running the eye center.
