Media council bill only to control misuse of social sites: Minister Banskota
Kathmandu, June 21: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has said that the media council bill was designed to control the misuse of social sites.
He argued that it was not designed to control the press freedom and freedom of speech. Speaking in the meeting of the Development and Technology Committee under the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Minister Banskota claimed that the media council bill was drafted aimed at making the society more decent and free.
He also said that the government had no motif of controlling the press freedom. Minister Banskota argued that the government had only the motif of making society disciplined and civilized considering the spirit of the constitution.
Minister Banskota also displayed some screenshots of containing absurd and indecent matters posted in social sites and requested the lawmakers to analyze such things.
He also opined that the bill could be amended if required. Minister Banskota also shared the issue of national server hacking for five hours few days ago and added that such cyber hacking was not an ordinary matter as it was related to security, banking and administrative sectors as well.
