Hunan Culture and Tourism Week held
Kathmandu, July 4: With a view to promoting tourism between Hunan province of China and Nepal, Hunan Culture and Tourism Week in Nepal was opened in the capital on Thursday.
Addressing the ceremony, Huang Yangfang, vice-general manager of Hunan Airport Management Group Co. Ltd, said that there would soon be direct flight between Changsha, capital city of Hunan, and Kathmandu.
"Let me share this here that there will be direct flight between Changsha and Kathmandu soon by the Himalaya Airlines, and the flight will be twice a week," said Huang.
She said that 44 international destinations could be flown to from Changsha international airport.
Deputy director of Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Cheng Yuanping, viewed that the Hunan culture week would not only promote tourism between the two countries but also bolster relations between the two neighbours.
"Hunan is a naturally beautiful place with Zhangjiajie, a world natural heritage where one can see three thousand marvelous peaks, lakes and rivers. With 60 per cent forest coverage and 51.2 per cent mountainous region, Hunan is naturally splendid, and one can get all the modern facilities here," he said. He added Hunan was culturally rich with ancient Buddhist stupas and statues.
Danduraj Ghimire, director general of Department of Tourism, said that Hunan and Nepal had physical similarities and also shared culture of Buddhism.
He expressed hope that the Hunan culture and tourism week would help Nepalese to know much about Hunan and visit the province also known as birthplace of Mao Zedong, China's great leader and thinker.
Yan Shichao, deputy chief of mission of Chinese Embassy in Nepal, said that there had been encouraging increase of Chinese tourists in Nepal.

"China is the second largest sour of international tourist for Nepal and Nepal is a very favorable destination for Chinese tourists," he said, adding, tourism also promotes people-to-people contact.
During the opening ceremony, presentations about Hunan province, its cities, food, tourist areas, rivers, lakes and mountains as well as infrastructures were made. Photos depicting lives of the people, natural beauty, artifacts and cultural monuments were also put for display.
On the occasion, two travel companies from Hunan and Nepal made agreement to strategic partnership to promote tourism between the two countries.
