Senate meet of Mid-Western University approves annual budget of Rs. 1.04 billion
Kathmandu, July 21: The 9th Senate of Mid-Western University held on Sunday at Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar approved the annual budget of the university worth Rs. 1.04 billion for the current fiscal year 2019/20.
The university has proposed a budget of Rs. 371.26 million under its capital expenditure and Rs. 665.76 million under recurrent expenditure for the current fiscal year.
The senate meeting of the university was initially chaired by its Chancellor and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. But later on, the Prime Minister handed over the chairmanship of the senate to Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Upendra Kumar Koirala.
The senate also approved the annual financial report of the University of the fiscal year 2018/19. The university spent Rs. 497.7 million last fiscal year, Rs. 329.6 million under the recurrent expenditure and Rs. 168.09 million under capital expenditure
Addressing the senate of the university as an invitee senate member, Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet said that the Mid-Western University as the only one university of the Karnali State should be able to lead the education sector of the State.
The university should prepare the model of economic development of the Karnali State by producing human resources as per the need of the State and availability of its resources, he said.
“University should produce human resources capable of creating jobs rather than holding jobs,” he said.
The university has a special responsibility to identify the problems of economic development in Karnali and provide solutions to these problems, he said.
Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Koirala said that local bodies of Karnali States had expressed their commitment to invest in technical education in higher levels.
He said that the university was planning to make 10 colleges of different districts as constituent colleges of the university.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister launched ‘Golden Rays’ a feature book, of the university.
