Nepal hosts 585,531 tourists in 6 months

Kathmandu, July 23: At a time when Nepal has been preparing for the Visit Nepal Year 2020 with a target of bringing in 2 million tourists next year, the country has welcomed a total of 585,531 tourists during the first six months this year.
The figure includes tourists who have entered the country via air and land routes. This is a 12.6 per cent grow as compared to the arrivals last year. The country received 490,534 tourists during the same period last year.
According to the figures released recently by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the country welcomed a total of 103,461 tourists from India. This is a 7.36 per cent rise in comparison with the figure of the same period last year. China has remained the second largest tourist source market for Nepal during the period. Altogether 85,318 Chinese tourists came to the country during the period. This is 19.53 per cent more as compared to the same period last year.
The United States of America has stood as the third biggest tourist source market for the country. A total of 48,201 Americans came to the country in the last six months. Similarly, as many as 28,951 and 28,790 visitors visited the country from the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka, respectively.
The number of Thai, South Korean and Japanese tourists who came to Nepal during the same period stood at 32,365, 19,101 and 16,330, respectively.
Meanwhile, the overall arrivals from South Asian Association Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries recorded a robust growth of 10.4 per cent over the same period last year, with 144,957 total tourist arrivals this year.
Besides, arrivals from Europe also increased, with 104,783 total arrivals in first six months this year.
