Real-time bipad portal soon

Kathmandu, Aug. 8: The government is preparing a real time data base information management sharing portal that will be related completely to both natural and non-natural hazards.
Though the government has been operating drrportal.gov.np to share information relating to natural disasters at present, the officials said the site was incomplete and incompatible to share and place data from across the country.
“The newly designed disaster information portal (bipad.gov.np) is solely related to share, collect and place data on both natural and non-natural hazards,” Shambhu Prasad Regmi, under-secretary and acting chief at the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, told The Rising Nepal.
A team under the Ministry of Home Affairs is currently assessing natural and non-natural disaster related data/information from various inter-governmental offices, private bodies and Nepal Police to bring this new disaster management information system (DMIS) software into operation, Regmi said.
“bipad.gov.np will come into function fully when credible data/information are integrated into the system coming from all local levels and for this we need to train local level representatives as well,” Regmi said.
Some of the unique features of the portal are that every concerned authority across the country up to municipal level can directly make their entry into the portal through the given usernames and passwords and input their respective place’s data/information related to natural and non-natural hazards, Regmi said.
The portal was designed as per the federal concept which helps to show and provide information of each State and up to local level bodies, he said.
“Disaster data/information still remain scattered, insufficient and not fully harmonised, and at present we are doing so by pooling all credible digital and spatial data
that are available within different government bodies, non-governmental organisations, academic institutions and research organisations on a single platform,” Arun Poudel, information technology official involved in designing the portal, said.
This site has also provisions to monitor the projects of the government and non-government organisations on the basis of the seven targets of Sendai Framework (2015-2030) and Priorities and Sub-Priorities of Disaster Risk Reduction Strategic Action plan 2018, he said.
