Chitwan, Aug 15: One more activity is set to be added in our to-do lists when in Chitwan. If we ever think of cruising, we expect of spending thousands of bucks to travel overseas. You can now take the cruise feel without burning a hole in your pocket and voyage along in-land waterways of the Narayani River.
A boat with capacity of 200 passengers is expected to be launched in the Narayani River by this Dashain, in the initiation of Rhino Water Entertainment Private Limited.
Tourism being one of the mainstays of Nepali economy, this project is looked as one of the major aspects in the development.
Along with increasing inbound and domestic tourists, it is anticipated that the project would aid in creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, promoting cultural awareness and developing infrastructure in Chitwan-Nawalparasi area.
“By now, 90 per cent of the technical works have been completed while 20 to 30 per cent of the physical works are yet to complete,” said Ram Chandra Kandel, Managing Director, Rhino Water Entertainment Pvt Ltd. “We’re currently working on the interior designing of the cruise.”
We have estimated approximately 81,000 cruisers annually. The locals also seem to be excited about it. The impact of our project has started to be visible on the day-to-day transactions of the hotels nearby, said Kandel.
As we have been assembling the boat, daily 200 to 500 people come to witness the process. This per se has doubled the market-price of the commodities in the area, informed the company.
Kandel further said that they would be creating direct employment opportunities for about 60-70 people while the array of indirect employment opportunities was increasing massively.
“Hotels and resorts, in a huge number are in line to be opened,” said Kandel. “This will assist in providing jobs to hundreds of youths.”
We have been getting full support from the local municipalities, state government, political parties and the locals. This has made it easier for us to work, informed the company.
The locals also seemed to be enthusiastic about the operation of cruise. “We are very much looking forward to it. This would amount to overall development in tourism sector of Chitwan and Nawalparasi,” said Keshar Yadav, a local. “The advertising intensity; however, seems to be lower at the moment. To attract maximum number of cruisers, advertisement must be done in full swing.”
“As an effect of the project, many resorts are in the verge of being opened in the Golaghat area,” said Yadav. “Also, entities providing products and services of religious nature would also increase in Devghat area.”
Yadav believes that even though the possibility of direct employment being created is low, the project would intensely help in creating thousands of indirect employment opportunities.
As informed by the company, the total project cost is estimated to be Rs. 350 million. Also agreement of 20 years has been concluded between the company and the community forest for the construction and operation of the boat.
The two storied boat being assembled is of 100ft in length and 25ft in breadth. The 25 kilometre cruise ride will initiate from Kavreghat and voyage all the way to Golaghat. It will be able to carry 200 passengers at a time and one ride is expected to be three hours long.
