Kathmandu, Aug. 30 : Nepal national football men’s team head coach Johan Kalin has announced the final squad for the match against Kuwait and Chinese Taipei of the Asian Qualifiers FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Asian Cup China 2023.
Nepal will play Kuwait on September 5 in their opening Group B Qualifiers match. Likewise, the team will challenge Chinese Taipei on September 10. Captain Biraj Maharjan again has been excluded from the team as he failed to impress coach Kalin with his fitness.
Earlier, he was left out from the friendly match against Malaysian Super League Champions Johar Darul Ta’Zim on August 26, due to his fitness issues. The exclusion of Maharjan has sent the message to players that the fitness is the main priority of Kalin.
Swede Coach Kalin has included goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong and midfielder Rohit Chand.
They replaced Alan Neupane and Bimal Rana who were the members of the team that travelled to Malaysia. Chemjong, who was in Japan for trial and Chand, who was in Indonesia to play the league, returned Nepal on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Chemjong is likely to take the armband of the team in the absence of Maharjan. Coach Kalin gave Sujal Shrestha the role of captain in Malaysia tour as Chemjong was busy at trial in Japan.
Striker Bhatar Khawas from Nepal Army was also not included in the team as he is currently in Thailand for his official training.
Nepal are drawn with Kuwait, Chinese Taipei, Jordan and Australia. To adapt the condition, Nepal will leave for Kuwait on September 1.
