National Assembly passes bill amending some Nepal Education Acts
Kathmandu, Aug 30 : Today's meeting of the National Assembly passed the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Rel;ated to Education, 2075', by a majority.
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel presented a proposal in the meeting seeking the passage of the bill.
Taking part in the discussions on the principles of the bill, Jitendra Narayan Dev said the proposal presented by the Education Minister that the person presiding over the university's senate meeting should certify the meeting was approved unanimously. He recalled that the House had held a long discussion on this issue.
Lawmaker Ram Lakhan Chamar complained that the provision of scholarship to the students from the dalit community has not been implemented properly.
Prakash Pantha said the constitutional provision of providing free education to the people with disability in the higher education has been hijacked.
Responding to the questions raised by the lawmakers during the discussions, the Education Minister made it clear that the government did not have the intention of restricting the spirit of the constitution while formulating laws.
He clarified that the bill was designed in keeping with the provisions specified in the constitution.
Before this, Minister Pokharel had presented in the Assembly a proposal seeking discussions on the bill along with the report of the Legislation Management Committee.
