Women of Tharu community deprived of citizenship
Parasi, Nov. 4: Most of the women of Tharu community in Nawalparasi district are reportedly deprived of citizenship.
It is said that the husbands of the women seem reluctant to get citizenship for women due to their traditional mindset. The women complained that even the educated men also hesitate to sponsor the citizenship for their wives fearing that women should be given property.
At an interaction programme organised Tuesday at Tilakpur of the district, the women of the Tharu community said that they were deprived of the citizenship and even the cases like rape were settled from the elites in the society without providing justice to the victims. The women were of the opinion that even the police administration was not cooperating with them in such cases. RSS
